The Ligonier Echo (Ligonier, Pennsylvania) 21 Oct 1931
James P. McKelvey, of Pittsburgh, died Monday, October 19th, at the West Penn
Hospital in Pittsburgh, of pneumonia. Mr. McKelvey was vice president of the
Exchange National Bank, of Pittsburgh, and had been associated with the bank for the
past 22 years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alma McKelvey, and two sons,
Willard H. McKelvey and Arthur G. McKelvey, also by the following brothers and
sisters: Mrs. John Bottomer, of Pittsburgh; Mrs. John Shaffer, of Braddock; Mrs.
James Gross, of Ligonier; Matthew McKelvey, of Frederick, Ohio; Mrs. Robert Johnson,
of Cook township; and Smith McKelvey, of Braddock. Mr. McKelvey was a son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. William McKelvey. He was born in Ligonier township near the Reed
school house where he gained his early education. He went to Westminster College for
one semester, but was forced to leave school on account of the death of his father.
Mr. McKelvey then became a clerk in the Jacob Keffer clothing store at Ligonier.
Later he took a business course and still later he became P. R. R. ticket agent at
Pittsburgh. He continued in the latter employment until he turned to banking.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o'clock this (Wednesday) afternoon in the T.
B. Moreland Funeral Home in Pittsburgh. Interment will be made in the Ligonier
Valley cemetery.
