Ruth Willison Carpenter, 90, of Frost Avenue, Frostburg, died Saturday,
Dec. 28, 1996, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born 8/3/1906, in Frostburg, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence
David and Dora (Evans) Willison.  She also was preceded in death by her
husband, D. Varner Carpenter, and one brother, Lawrence D. Willison, Jr.
Mrs. Carpenter was an eighth generation Allegany County resident, and
was a 76 year member of Frostburg United Methodist Church.  She was a
charter member of the Frostburg Museum Association.  She was very
interested in history, particularly in the history of Allegany County.
She was a 1926 graduate of Beall High School; the Maryland College for
Young Women; and Margaret Morrison College of Carnegie Tech University.
***>Her grandfather, Andrew Jackson Willison, and her father were well
known builders and built many of the private and public buildings in
Frostburg.  Her maternal grandfather, Wm. H. Evans, was the person who
brought electricity to Frostburg.  Mrs. Carpenter's childhood home is
now the Frostburg Elks Home.
Surving are one daughter, Carol Gross and husband Gerald M., New York
City; one son, Don Carpenter, Lancaster, Pa.; 3 grandchildren, Katherine
Ruth Carpenter, Nancy E. Carpenter and Andrew C. Carpenter, all of
Lancaster.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, on
Sunday from 1 to 2 PM.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home.....etc.
