The Herald, Piedmont, West Virginia, Fri 17 July 1903:
"At a meeting of St. Patrick's T. A. B. Society, of Westernport,
Md., held on Sunday, July 5, 1903, the following resolutions
were adopted. Whereas, This society has heard with feelings of
the deepest regret of the death of our late fellow member Capt.
A. A. Carney of Wheeling, W. Va., who was a charter member and
who, for thirty-four years used his best efforts and influence
for its welfare and always had its best interest at heart and
labored faithfully for the cause of temperence. His gentlemanly
affable bearing, his courteous manner and his candid, just and
honorable conduct commanded the respect and esteem in which he
was held and endeared him to all his fellow members. His life
was that of the perfect Catholic gentleman, believing in and
better still, living up to the precepts of our Holy Faith. The
loss his family has sustained we cannot fully appreciate, but
we can well imagine that one of the joys of the hereafter to
which they look forward will be a reuynion with the loving
husband and devoted father. That these resolutions bespread
upon our minutes, be published in The Piedmont Herald and a
copy be sent to his family."
