"The Herald" Piedmont, West Virginia, Friday 31 Dec : 
"Patrick Joseph Brophy, aged 46 years died Sunday morning 26 December 1920 at his 
home in Franklin, following a week's illness from pneumonia. Mr. Brophy was well 
known throughout the George's Creek region, having played baseball with the 
Frostburg and Cumberland teams for several seasons. He was a mine superintendent 
for the Piedmont and George's Creek Coal Company, of which his brother, Mr. John 
S. Brophy is president. He had charge of the company's operations at Franklin. Mr. 
Brophy was twice married. His first wife, Margaret Brown Brophy died in 1901. He 
is survived by his second wife, Mrs. Lillian Brophy, a daughter of the late Howard 
Oglebay, Cumberland, and two sons by his former marriage, Edward Brophy, of Akron, 
Ohio and Joseph Brophy, at home. He also leaves three brothers, John S. Brophy, 
Frostburg; James Brophy, Red Ridge, Montana and William Brophy, of Texas, and two 
sisters, Mrs. John Kenny and Mrs. James McNally of Franklin. Mr. Brophy had been 
ill for the past year. He underwent a severe operation at a Baltimore hospital in 
August, since which time his health had been much improved. A few days ago he 
contracted a cold which settled in his lungs and caused his death. The funeral was 
held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, on Tuesday morning, Solemn High 
Mass being celebrated with Rev. Ambrose Quinn, Rev. Thos. E. McGuigan, Rev. Joseph 
Garvey and Rev. Father Scarpati, officiating. Interment was in St. Peter's cemetery."
