Evening Times, Cumberland, Maryland, 14 Dec 1946:
"Frostburg, Dec. 14-Edward Brophy, about 48, died yesterday
in Akron of a heart ailment, according to word received here
today. Funeral services will be held Monday in Bellwood, Pa.
Mr. Brophy was a native of Frostburg, a son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Patrick Brophy, and left here about 25 years ago to
reside in Arkon where he was employed as a steward at a club.
He was the last survivor or his immediate family but his
stepmother, Mrs. Michael Naughton, resides in Barton. He
also leaves his widow. Both Mr. Brophy and his father were
prominent in baseball circles in this section and the son was
also outstanding as a basketball player. He maintained his
interest in sports in recent years, managing a strong baseball
team in Akron. Mr. Brophy was a nephew of John S. Brophy, at
one time a leading coal operator here, and worked for his
uncle for a time after being graduated from Beall High School."
