The Atlanta Constitution October 16, 1898
Obed C. Dunaway Mellow Valley Ala.
Dear Junior,
I've in the country have a pleasant stay with mother and stepfather. Can milk,
cook and do housework like a girl. Like flowers and music think they make home
attractive and sweet. Wish I could play instruments, but I have never spent time
trying to learn have put my time mostly on schoolbooks now nearly out of the
fifth grade. Am very much concerned about my vocation in life. I cannot choose
farming because of my impaired health, and it affects my hearing, and I don't
know enough of the busy world to know what indoor work would suit me best. We
must never yield to disappointments for they come in this life but must make the
best of life no matter where our lots are cast. Be contented and look ever to
Jesus.
