Lineville Headlight August 14, 1930
On August 5th, last week a reunion was held at the home of Mr. J. W. Moncus of
this place in memory of his mother, who had she lived, would have been 69 years
of age. She slipped away in Sept. 1924. There were 8 children of the family
present, four boys and four girls with their husbands, wives and children. Mr.
and Mrs. A. M. Moncus of Anniston, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Moncus, Mr. and Mrs. W. W.
Moncus and Mr. and Mrs. Chas Moncus, Mr. and Mrs. Grady Griffin, all of
Lineville, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Burgess of Wadley, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Johnson of
Cedar Bluff, and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Moncus of Ofelia, Mrs. T. J. Wilson and
daughter, Lois, Mrs. L. J. S. Willingham of Lineville and Mrs. Kellum of
Sikesville, were the visitors present. With great grandchildren, there were 51
present A long table was spread out in the yard under the beautiful shade trees
from which a bounteous dinner was served and enjoyed by everyone present. In the
afternoon an old-time watermelon cutting just filled in with the day of
hospitality and genuine fellowship. Those present so thoroughly enjoyed the
coming together that they voted to make it an annual affair, hoping that at the
next gathering two children absent this time would be among them. One of the
sweetest and most touching events of the day was the visit to their mother's
resting place and the placing of fresh fragrant flower on the sod which holds
her tender remains.
