Native Virginian 3 July 1868 July 3, 1868
Mr. Morris, who is engaged in taking up the Confederate dead for reinterment in
Blandford cemetery, informs us through a member of the ladies memorial
association, the Yankees are taking up Confederate dead wherever they are to be
found and burying them in the Yankee burying ground at Poplar Grove. Their
object is not to give decent sepulture to the remains of our heroic boys, but to
obtain from the government the amount ($8) paid for each dead body thus
recovered and burried.

At Sutherland's depot, they have anticipated Mr. Morriss. They removed not only
the "unknown" but those also that were marked, first destroying the head-boards
so as to prevent identification. -Peterburg Index.
