Native Virginia 3 July 1868 July 3, 1868
On the closing of the circus Friday evening in Norfolk, Mr. Sullivan, one of the
attendees of the circus, while on his way to his hotel was shot in the back of his
head, the ball glancing upward, making a wound about two inches in length, and
grazing the skull. A man named I.G. Newron, an attachee of the circus, was
arrested by officer McMannahan, who confessed to having committed the deed.
