Native Virginian 31 July 1868
On Thursday, the 9th inst., Solomon Simons and his horse were killed by lightening
in the Shenandoah mountain whilst salting his cattle. He was found next day, with
both feet in the stirrups and the only mark about either were a rent in Mr.
Simmon's hat, an impression on the skull, and a hole in one shoulder.
