from The Pittsburgh Press dated Thursday, September 18, 1890 (page 7):
 
A Brakeman Fatally Injured
 
A young man named Mark BENSON, a brakeman on the Baltimore & Ohio, was
brought to the Homeopathic hospital this afternoon, where he is lying
at the point of death from injuries received on the road. He was run
over by a car and horribly crushed. His death is expected at any
time.
 
 
from The Pittsburgh Press dated Saturday, September 20, 1890 (page 4):
 
The verdict at the inquest on the body of Mark BENSON, killed on the
Baltimore & Ohio railroad, was negligence on the part of the car
inspector. (under an article titled, Echoes of the Night)
 
 
from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records:
 
Mark BENSON, age 23 years, single, railroad switchman, died September
18, 1890 in Homeopathic Hospital, by being crushed on the B & O
Railroad at Laughlin station; born in Waterford PA; living in
Pittsburgh; buried in a Waterford PA cemetery on September 20, 1890.
 
Census records suggest that he is the son of John & Rachel BENSON of
Waterford, Erie Co, PA.
