CRUSHED BY LOCOMOTIVE
 
William BELL, 30 years old and married, 180 Cotton alley, was
instantly killed while at work in the Twenty-eighth street roundhouse
of the Pennsylvania railroad company at 4:30 this morning. BELL was
employed as a hostler and was working in the back of a locomotive when
another struck it, sending the engine over the unfortunate man.
BELL's body was terribly mangled and his remains were almost
unrecognizable. He was well known in the Seventeenth ward, where he
lived and had been employed with the railroad company for some time.
 
Coroner Jesse McGeary held an inquest to-day on the body and a verdict
of accidental death was returned.

from The Pittsburgh Commercial Gazette dated Friday, March 15, 1901 (page 5):
 
BELL - Suddenly, on Wednesday, March 13th, at 4 am, William T BELL,
aged 25 years. Funeral services at his late home, 110 44th street,
this afternoon at 2 o'clock.
 
 
from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records:
 
William T BELL, about 24 years old, married, died March 13, 1901,
fractured skull; son of Thomas and Jane D BELL (he from Scotland, she
from Canada); born in Canada; lived on 33rd Street; burial in
Allegheny Cemetery on March 15, 1901.
 
 
William T BELL 1875-1901 is buried in a family plot in Section 28, Lot
15 of Allegheny Cemetery. The family previously lived in Ontario,
Canada.
 
In the 1900 Allegheny Co PA census, William and wife Nettie Gray are
found at 189 Cotton Alley, 17th Ward. 110 44th Street is the home of
his parents.
