(page 4):
 
Died of His Injuries
 
Giles BATES, a flagman on the P, V & C R R, had several ribs broken
and was internally injured while working about a switch at Dravosburg
the other day. He was brought to his home, 2-2 Franklin street,
Allegheny, where he died on yesterday of his injuries. The Coroner
has been notified and will hold an inquest on his body today.
Deceased leaves a widow and several children.
 
 
from the Allegheny City Death Records:
 
Giles BATES, age 34 years, married, flagman, died November 23, 1879,
accidentally killed on railroad; born in Pittsburgh; lived at 222
Franklin Street; burial in Union Dale Cemetery.
 
Census and city directories suggest that his wife's name was Ann with
children Annie, Mary, Ada and May.
