Alexander Died Sunday; Rites Tuesday Anthony E. Alexander, one of Nashville’s most widely known citizens, died Sunday at 8:45 p.m., at Smith’s hospital in Hahira, following a short illness. Although he has been in declining health for several years his case became acute only a few days ago. Many were saddened to hear of his passing. Mr. Alexander was born September 12, 1899, in Nashville where he has lived all his life. His parents were the late Joseph and Nona Lamb Alexander. He was married to the former Miss Flonnie Mathis in 1926. He at one time was a Post Office employee in Nashville. He was last employed as manager of the Farmer’s State Market, but was forced to retire due to ill health. He has been a member of the Methodist Church since childhood. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 o’clock from the Nashville Methodist Church. Rev. Jack Key, pastor, assisted by Rev. Garnie A. Brand, conducted the last rites. Soft organ music was rendered by Mrs. E. Jenkins during the services. The body was laid to rest in the Nashville cemetery, under the direction of Lovein Funeral Home. Pall bearers were, Harold Carlton, Phin Avera, Bobby Clyatt, Shine Anderson, Harold Brown, and Emmitt Williams. Honorary escorts included Ben Avera, Walter Lowe, Lonnie Waller, O.B. Williams, Fred T. Allen, Ed Tygart, W.L. Clark, Ralph Watson, Earl T. Hamilton, M.E. Perry, H.W. Lott, J.D. Tygart, E.H. Brown Sr., Dumps Griffin, D.H. Anderson, Joe Harvey Sr., and A.J. Maluda. Surviving Mr. Alexander are his wife, Mrs. Flonnie Alexander of Nashville; one daughter, Mrs. Paul Parrish, Adel; five sisters, Mrs. E.A. Gibbs, Ty Ty, Mrs. E.W. Trannell, Sumner, Mrs. C.M. Gay, Orlando, Fla., Mrs. S.C. Mauldrice, Winston Salem, N.C., and Mrs. Emil Romagnoli, Yonkers, N.Y., and three grandchildren.
