a.m. of kidney trouble of which he had been afflicted for a long time,
and for the past five months confined to his room, at the advanced age
of 78 years, 2 months, and 25 days. He was born in Mifflin county,
Pa., Sept. 18, 1825, and on Nov. 29, 1849, he married Miss Jane
Cunningham of the same locality. To this union were born nine
children, five of whom are living as follows: J. W. Barr of E. St.
Louis, Ill.; Mrs. Geo. Algoe of Toluca, Ill.; M. R. and R. G. Barr and
Mrs. W. E. Case of Mercer township. Mrs. Algoe arrived a few days
before and was present at the time of his death. In 1866 Mr. and Mrs.
Barr located in Marshall county, Ill., where they remained until about
1880 when they located in Mercer township where they resided until the
time of their death, Mrs. Barr having passed to her reward about five
years ago. The funeral was held at 10 o'clock Sunday morning....
interment at Lenox cemetery.

Adams County Free Press, Corning, Iowa, December 19, 1903

NOTE: It is probable that he was born in Huntingdon county as his
parents were in that county, where Samuel was a teacher, not moving to
Mifflin county as a married couple until sometime between 1832 and
1834.
