MRS. THORNTON BACHTEL

  Mrs. Edith Marlin Bachtel died at her home in Mount Union on Friday 
evening, April 19th.  Mrs. Bachtel had undergone an operation about a 
year ago, from which she had never fully recovered.  Deceased was a 
daughter of William and Nancy Marlin and was born in Walker township 
about sixty years ago.  In the year 1878 she was united in marriage to 
Thorton Bachtel, formerly of Shade Gap.  After their marriage, they had 
lived for some time in Huntingdon, but for the past thirty years have 
resided in Mount Union.  Mrs. Bachtel was a consistent member of the 
Methodist church from the time she was a young girl.  She is survived 
by her husband, two daughters, and one son, as follows: Mrs. Mary 
Rogers, of Mount Union; Miss Grace, at home; and William Bachtel, of 
Harrisburg.  She is also survived by two brothers, Harry Marlin, of 
Akron, Ohio; and William Marlin, of Huntingdon.  Funeral services were 
conducted on Tuesday afternoon at 2.30 by the Rev. S. S. Carnell, with 
interment in Mount Union cemetery.
