Anniston Star December 29, 1940
J. O. Motes of Wellington, Route 1, was having a time catching a chicken when we
stopped by the other day and brought out the old shotgun for assistance. The
charge that he fired failed to stop the chicken at first because it was a clean
miss but a tree standing in the path of the charge caused wood to bounce off in
sufficient amounts to kill the chicken.
He showed us the old Blue Back speller that his father, J. B. Motes of Delta,
Route 2, used when he went to school. Mr. Motes father it now 81 years old; He
also has an old dough tray made from beech-wood that came from Chambers County in
1840.
