Anniston Star December 15, 1940
Over near Hollis Crossroads we came upon the Old Patriarch of Cleburne County.
Grandpa E. B. Hollis. He showed us his chimney built from native stone. When
this stone is first taken from the earth it is so soft that it can be sawed by a
common wood crosscut saw. Each stone to sawed to fit in its particular place,
just like piece of wood. Tis a beautiful chimney, both inside and outside, and
it looks as though it would stand throughout the ages. Grandpa Hollis told us
that he was the third child in a family of 23 children. He said that he had nine
uncles and his father all in the Confederate Army at the same time. Grandpa
Hollis is 86 years old, active end hearty, and can talk the tale off a brass
monkey. He owns an excellent farm of well over three hundred acres end has lived
here 56 years. He told us he never went to school but three days.

Additional Comments:
Elias B. Hollis lived in the Clay-Cleburne County line.
