Anniston Star October 13, 1935
D. S. Johnson, who lives on Route 1, Delta has 12 baby pigs in a litter from his
four-year-old sow. Mr. Johnson said this sow is a full blooded Duroc subject to
his registration, and her mother was a prize winner at a Cleburne County fair.
"I intend to keep three of them for my own use and sell the rest of them" he
said.

February 14, next, T. J. Jones of Delta, Route 1, who was named for Thomas
Jefferson, will be 92 years old. Mr. Jones served four years in the War Between
the States, and he said on July 3, 1863, they ate mule meat for dinner. "We
killed two mules barbecued the hind quarters" he said "The meat was a little
dark but tasted good, for we had been without food for three days." Mr. Jones
said he was born in Randolph County and has never voted anywhere but, in his own
precinct. "To my best recollection there are only six confederate soldiers now
living om Clay County". he said Mr. Jones thinks war an awful thing and hopes
that the United States stays out of the present one. August 5, 1869, Mr. Jones
married Tallulah Hunt, November 24. Mrs. Jones will be 83 years old. They are a
fine old couple and I enjoy calling on them.

Did you ever see a bamboo brier walking stick? The first one I remember seeing
is the one G.S. Jones of Delta Route 1, had last week when I called at his home
This stick is about three and a half feet long and the handle, is carved from
the root of the brier. Mr. Jones also showed me an old mill rock that the
Indians used.
