Our Mountain Home February 1, 1911
Berry Durham alias Jewell Durham was arrested at Renfroe Monday night by Chief of
Police Thweatt and Officer B. F Bostic, believed to be a man who stole from W. D.
Higginbotham, of Delta, Clay County, a horse and buggy. When arrested Durham had
a mule and buggy, the belief being expressed that he had swapped the horse for
the mule. The buggy he had in his possession corresponded with the description of
the stolen buggy sent out by Mr. Higginbotham. Durham had been about Renfroe for
a year or more working as a farm hand. He is said to have come to that locality
from Georgia. He has been in custody before for the theft of a mule belonging to
Mr. Bates, but it could not be proven against. Mr. Higginbotham has been notified
and is expected to come to Talladega.
