 Billy R. Bowen, Sr., 68 of Lakeland took Jesus’ hand and went to his eternal 
home January 6, 2014, at his residence after a lengthy illness with a brain 
tumor.
 He was born July 25, 1945, to the late Leon and Louella Giddens Bowen in 
Atkinson County. He was employed at McCranie-Griner Chevrolet in Nashville as a 
paint and body specialist for over 45 years. He was a founding member and helped 
build Mud Creek Christian Fellowship Church in Lanier County. In addition to his 
parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Gene Bowen.
 Survivors include his wife, Pat Sirmans Bowen of Lakeland; daughter and son-in-
law, Tammy and Keith Exum of Nashville; daughter and son-in-law, Abbie and 
Phillip Dykes of Sparks; son and daughter-in-law, Billy Ray and Kimberly Bowen, 
Jr. of Lakeland; step-daughter, Beth and Joel Fulghum of Lakeland; step-
daughter, Christy and Mark Schremmer of Palatka, FL; sister, Ludine Wooten of 
Brunswick; sister, Christine Paulk of Pearson; father-in-law, William Harry 
Sirmans of Lakeland; 14 grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews.
 Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on January 8 at Mud Creek Christian 
Fellowship Church with burial in Live Oak Cemetery in Atkinson County.
 Music Funeral Services of Lakeland was in charge of arrangements.
