Anniston Star October 13, 1904
The special convention called by the democratic executive committee of Clay
County to nominate a candidate for judge of probate convened Monday at Ashland
and nominated Rev. Frank J. Ingram, of Delta. Only two names were before the
convention, the nominee and E. J. Garrison. After the convention was organized
and the voting started, it soon developed that Mr., Ingram was in control and
Mr. Garrison withdrew. The nominee in a Baptist Missionary minister, a gentleman
on whom all factions can units and his friends and supporters in Clay believe
that he will win in the election next month. The nomination of Mr. Ingram is the
outcome of conditions which threatened the defeat of the party in the candidacy
of J. A. White, the democratic nominee, and Dr. S. J. Gay, an independent. They
both came down and agreed to support a new nominee, hence the convention.
