Obituary - Punxsutawney Historical Society
PATRICK SULLIVAN DIED MONDAY P.M.
Former Resident of DuBois Succumbed in Home of Daughter, Mrs. J. E. Doran, Here.

Patrick T. Sullivan, a well known citizen of DuBois for many years until his
departure 14 years ago, died unexpectedly at 5:30 o'clock Monday afternoon in
the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. E. Doran, on West Mahoning Street, where he
had been making his home for the past two years.

Mr. Sullivan had been ill for two weeks, suffering from heart trouble. However
it was not believed that his condition was serious until late Monday afternoon
when it became acute and he died within a short time.

Mr. Sullivan had been a funeral director in DuBois for more than a decade,
including the period of the World War and flu epidemic, and was widely known
around DuBois. He was held in high esteem and his death will be mourned by a
wide circle of friends.

The deceased was a native of Ireland, born in County Tipperary some 70 years
ago, and came to the United States in his youth. He located at Driftwood for a
year before going to DuBois several years before the fire of June, 1888 and had
resided there until 1925. In his early days he followed the mining trade and
later was an employee of the old B.R.& P Railroad until 1909 when he entered
the undertaking business.

In 1888 he was joined in wedlock to Mary Ann Martin, of DuBois, who died 20
years ago. Five years later he went to Elizabeth, NJ where he resided with a
son until two years ago when he came to Punxsutawney to live.

During his residence in DuBois Mr. Sullivan helped to organize the Ancient
Order of Hibernians and the Knights of Columbus, having been charter members of
both lodges. He was a member of St. Catherine's Church in DuBois.

One daughter, Mrs. Johanna Lawless, and a son, John P. Sullivan, also preceded
him in death. He is survived by four sons and one daughter: Charles H. and
Michael J. of DuBois; Thomas E. and Patrick W. of Elizabeth, NJ; and Mrs. J. E.
Doran, of this city. Two brothers; J.J. Sullivan of suBois, and Michael of
Mullenhome, Ireland, and a sister, Mrs. Nora Cullen, also of Mullenhome,
Ireland, also survive.

The body was taken to the home of Michael Sullivan in DuBois where it may be
viewed by friends until Thursday morning when funeral services will be held at
9 o'clock in the St. Catherine's Church and burial will be made in St.
Catherine's Cemetary in DuBois.
