Ashland Progress January 16, 1936
Dewey Peoples, of the Delta community, in the northern part of Clay County is
out under a $750 bond charged with shooting his wife and a neighbor, one Mr.
Bunn. Mr. Bunn has a flesh wound in the side and forehead, while it seems that
Mrs. Peoples was shot in the thigh, breaking the bone. She was carried to
Lineville where she received first aid, and later, on Tuesday, carried to a
hospital in Anniston. It is reported that the people of the neighborhood had met
for an evening's entertainment when Mr. Peoples and Mr. Bunn became involved in
a difficulty which resulted in the shooting of Mr. Bunn and the accidental
shooting of Mrs. Peoples.

Anniston Star, Jan 14, 1936:
Mrs. L. D. Peoples of Delta. Route 5. was under treatment today at Garner
Hospital for a gunshot wound and fracture in the right thigh, resulting,
according to reports, from a shooting scrape that took place Saturday night at a
party at the home of a man named Thrasher in the upper part of Clay County.
Sheriff W. D. Mayo of Clay County reported today that the shooting was the
result of a difficulty between Peoples and Woody Bunn. He said Bunn was slightly
wounded in the side, Sheriff Mayo reported, that Peoples stated after he was
taken in custody that he shot at Bunn and that Bunn shot at him. Sheriff Mayo
said Peoples claimed a bullet fired by Bunn wounded Peoples wife. Two charges of
assault with intent to murder were placed against Peoples. One was for shooting
Bunn and the other for shooting Mrs. Peoples, the sheriff said Peoples was
released under $750 bond in each case.
