"MRS. PELAEZ GOES TO FINAL REWARD"

"Mrs. Mary Lydia Joyner Pelaez, widow of the late Dr. Charles Pelaez, died at
2:15 yesterday afternoon, aged 69 years. Mrs. Pelaez was a native of St. Tammany
parish, Louisiana, but had been a resident of Biloxi for the last thirty years.
She resided at 322 East Howard avenue. Dr. Pelaez preceded her in death a number
of years ago. The family was well-known and prominent in the gulf coast country,
Dr. Peleaz at one time being one of the most prominent physicians here, at Pass
Christian and also in New Orleans, where they resided for a number of years.
Mrs. Pelaez is survived by two sons and two daughters. Her daughters are Mrs.
Clem G. Lang of Mobile, and Miss Marceline Pelaez, at home. Her sons are William
Pelaez, construction foreman for the Gulfport and Mississippi Coast Traction
Co., and Paul Pelaez, also an employee of that company. She was a devout member
of the Church of the Redeemer, of this city. The funeral will be held from the
late residence at 322 East Howard avenue this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock and will
be conducted by Rev. C. B. Crawford, the rector. Interment will be in the Biloxi
cemetery. Dr. Charles Peleaz was for a number of years surgeon in charge of the
quarantine station at Ship Island and Chandelure. He died in 1894 as a result of
exposure in the storm of that year. Miss Marceline Pelaez has for a number of
years been organist at the Church of the Redeemer."
