Alexander City Outlook May 4, 1906
A duel took place Friday in Ashland between Dr. Wes. Owens of Bluff Springs and
Jim White of Ashland., The latest report says that White was in Adams and
Craig's Drug store. He was in the drug store drinking a glass of lemonade with a
large mirror in front of him. Owens went to the drug store on business, not
knowing that White was there, when he pushed open the screen door. The mirror
reflected him to White, and White turned and shot Owens without warning. It took
effect in his right arm, ranging up to the elbow. He then broke to run, and
Owens fired three shots at White, only one taking effect in the shoulder, the
ball lodging over the shoulder blade. Neither one was seriously hurt. A family
trouble was the cause of the affray.
