Anniston Star June 2, 1937
The Lineville Tribune was established in 1902 as The Headlight. The publisher is
not known today, and he is believed to have failed in the venture and ceased
publication. Today under the management of J. H. Sams, publisher and editor, The
Tribune has become a progressive weekly newspaper with a circulation of 1,100.
The present circulation compares with the 360 at the time it was sold to Mr.
Sams, May 1, 1935. It is published Thursdays.
Many changes have been made in ownership since The Headlight was established.
After first failing. It was started up again in 1904 by Mr. Williams of
Louisiana. Mr. Williams sold in 1904 to Dr, Stodghill who now lives in
Talladega, and in 1908 Dr. Stodghill sold to Roby Dawson. Later in 1908 R. M.
Ussery and Isaac L. Weaver purchased it, selling it in 1907 to Dr. Stodghill
again. Dr. Stodghill leased it to a Walter S. Smith. Mr. Smith bought it in
1908, remaining m possession until 1920 when he in turn sold to John Bell and
Jim Dobbins. Another change gave it to W. V. Pirkle in 1921. Tom Ham and Mac
Perry purchased in 1933, changing the name from Headlight to Tribune. February
1, 1935, Mr. Ussery of Roanoke repurchased it and May 1, it was sold to Mr.
Sams.
