Ernest Cox, paroled Alabama convict, was on his way back to Kilby Prison 
yesterday to resume serving his sentence pending trial in Clay County in October 
on charges of murder and robbery, both of which offenses are said to have been 
committed after he was paroled. Convicted in Randolph County, Feb. 24. 1932. of 
second-degree murder. Cox was sentenced to 20 years in the penitentiary. On June 
29. 1934, he was paroled. For months, it was learned yesterday. Sheriff William 
D. Mayo of Clay County has been looking for Cox to arrest him on the murder and 
robbery charges and mailing descriptions of him far and wide with a request that 
be taken into custody on sight. Yesterday, Sheriff W. D. Prestridge, of Cleburne 
County was notified by Chief of Police J. L. Boyd, of Fairburn, Ga, that he had 
picked up Cox and was holding him for Alabama authorities. He immediately 
proceeded to Fairburn, brought the prisoner back and turned him over to Sheriff 
Mayo of Clay.

Cleburne News Aug 26, 1937:
 State prison officials Thursday said Ernest Cox, 25, paroled convict arrested 
in Fairburn, Ga., and held here, would be returned to prison to await action on 
charge of robbery and murder in Clay County. Sheriff W, T. Prestridge said Cox 
was accused of the slaying of Blake Thrash and with the holdup of a motorist. 
Thrash was killed last Christmas, Prestridge said, adding Cox had admitted the 
slaying. After Cox's arrest was announced, state authorities said his parole was 
revoked, effective Thursday, and he would be returned to Kilby Prison at 
Montgomery. Convict Department records said Cox was convicted of second-degree 
murder in 1932 and given 20 years. He was paroled two years later, according to 
records.
