Lineville Headlight December 16, 1910
On last Sunday, afternoon Jim Hawkins was shot and dangerously wounded by Vest
Collins near Pickneyyille, this county. At the time of the shooting Hawkins was
riding horseback in his own field near his home, inspecting a wire fence which
had been cut in several places. When the gun was fired Hawkins had his right hand
to his mouth and received the load of shot in his forearm, hand and face, one
side of his face being almost torn away. His assailant was behind a tree, and he
did not see him until after the shot was fired. Collins was arrested and is now
in jail at Ashland. Doubts are entertained as to the recovery of Hawkins.
