Ashland Progress August 18, 1916
A few days jury term of the County Court of Clay will he held next week,
beginning Tuesday, for the purpose of trying the cases of prisoners, who are now
in jail, before the vacation. There are about a dozen such cases on the docket,
several of which are felonies. Among the cases to be tried are those of the
negroes who caused the recent disturbances in "The Glades" one of whom, Charley
Wilson, took a shot at the sheriff deputy, R. M. McCain, in order to avoid
arrest, and is now facing four indictments. Andrew Lauderdale, one of the
assailants of the young white man, Hurst, will also be tried on a charge of
assault with intent to murder. Monday will be devoted to non-jury cases.
