Atkinson County Citizen - January 2005
 Mrs. Era Hewitt Dawson age 89 of Axson, GA passed away Friday morning December 
31, 2004 at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross, GA following an 
extended illness.

 A native of Coffee Co., Mrs. Dawson was born August 13, 1915 daughter of 
Thomas M. and Ella Guthrie Hewitt. She had made her home in the Axson Community 
for most of her life, was a homemaker and a member of the Axson Evangelistic 
Church. Mrs. Dawson was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Dawson, one 
grandson, Allen Dawson and one great grandson, Alex Pittman.

 Survivors include one son, Neal Dawson and wife Carolyn of Axson, GA; one 
daughter, Elaine Simmons and husband G.C. of Manor, GA; one sister Alice 
Bennett of Pearson, GA; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and 
several nieces and nephews also survive.

 Funeral services for Mrs. Dawson were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2005 
at the Axson Evangelistic Church with Rev. James Drake and Rev. Keith Lloyd 
officiating. Special musical selections included "He Whispers Sweet Peace To 
Me" rendered by the congregation with Freda Simmons accompanying at the 
piano, "I Bowed On My Knees and Cried Holy" rendered by Diane Davis with tape 
accompaniment and "Farther Along" rendered by Shannon Tole with Freda Simmons 
accompanying at the piano. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was provided 
by Freda Simmons, pianist. The interment followed in Axson Cemetery with the 
congregation singing "Amazing Grace" at the graveside.

 Serving as active pallbearers were Johnny Simmons, Mickey Simmons, Michael 
Peavy, John Stevens Simmons, Christopher Dawson and Bob Gray,

 Honorary pallbearers were Neiland Pittman, James White, Lewis Gurley, D.Q. 
Pittman, Donald Walker and T.J. Delk.

 Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of arrangements.
