Atkinson County Citizen - July 28, 2005
 Mr. Riley J. Cowart, age 86, of Douglas, GA, formerly of Pearson passed away 
Thursday evening, July 21, 2005 at Shady Acres Convalescent Center in Douglas, 
GA following an extended illness.

 A native of Atkinson County, Mr. Cowart was born April 6, 1919 son of George 
and Martha Corbitt Cowart. He was a retired farmer and former Mayor of Pearson 
from 1980 to 1982. Mr. Cowart was a member of Ozias Freewill Baptist Church 
where he was a Deacon for over 50 years. 

 Survivors include wife, Eva F. Cowart of Douglas, GA; three nieces, Joyce 
Johnson and husband Larry of Pearson, Annease Beverly and husband Paul of 
Opalocka, FL and Gladys Strickland and husband Keith of Nahunta; nephew, W.C. 
Cowart, Jr. and wife Jo of Chiefland, FL; and Johnnie Lee Fulmore of Pearson, 
GA whom he reared.

 Funeral services for Mr. Cowart were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2005 
at Ozias Freewill Baptist Church in Pearson, GA with Rev. Larry Johnson and 
Rev. Michael Johnson officiating. 

 Special music selections include "Not Afraid" and "Worth All My Trials" 
rendered by Michael Johnson with piano accompaniment. Soft music for the 
Prelude and Postlude was provided by Lilla Deems, pianist. The interment 
followed in Union Hill Cemetery.

 Serving as active pallbearers were David Taylor, Chase Taylor, Tim Smith, 
Johnnie Lee Fulmore, Dave Roberson and Jack Corbitt.

 Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
