A native of Atkinson County, she was born Dec. 22, 1923 to the late Joe and Sally Mercer Giddens. She had made her home in Leliaton for most of her life before moving to Brunswick four years ago to live with her daughter. She was a homemaker and member of Sunnyside Freewill Baptist Church and also attended Everett City Baptist Church in Brunswick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Bowen and son, Bobby Gene Bowen. Survivors include son, Billy Ray Bowen and wife, Patricia of Lakeland; two daughters, Lou Dean Wooten and husband, Jim Bo, of Brunswick and Christine Paulk of Willacoochee; two brothers, Earnest Giddens and wife, Emma Jean, of Tifton, Fred Giddens and wife, Brenda of Uvalda; three sisters, Mary Ruth Rau of Valdosta, GA, Joan Shikes and husband, Steve of Albany, Lucille McKinnon and husband, Ander of Willacoochee; 21 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 19 at Sunnyside Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Byers officiating. Musical selections included "Lord, You're my Best Friend" and "How Great Thou Art" by singer/pianist, Buddy Musgrove and wife, Lowanda, and "Get Ready to Leave this World" by the congregation with Buddy Musgrove at the piano. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Buddy Musgrove. Interment followed in Sunnyside Church Cemetery with musical selections provided by tape, "On the Wings of a Dove," "Mama's Prayer," "Ellensworth," and "Mama Liked to Burn the Midnight Oil." Active pallbearers were Carl Cannon, Jerome Stone, Jeffery Stone, Steve Harrison, Shon Coleman, Scott McDermitt, David Musgrove, D.J. Giddens. Honorary pallbearers were Greg Bowen, Stacey Bowen, Chris Bowen. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson was in charge of the arrangements.
