The Montgomery Advertiser June 24, 1902
Last Saturday night the occupants of the jail escaped. They were four in number, 
one white man named Miller, charged with selling whiskey, two young negroes. Gus 
McLendon and Henry McDonald, charged with larceny, and one old negro. Bill 
McKinney, who has been convicted of arson, and who is awaiting the decision of 
the Supreme Court on his appeal. Old Bill is too old or crippled to run away, but 
went to the deputy sheriff and told him of the escape. The other three prisoners 
have gone to parts unknown.
