People's Party February 2, 1894
The Supreme court, on the 8th instance, confirmed the judgment of Clay circuit
court which was rendered at the last August term against Archie I. Holmes for
the killing of Henry Mann. This is a case of considerable notoriety in our
county, and Holmes has many friends, notwithstanding the judgment of the courts.
The scenes at the jail last Sunday when Archie's people came to bid him farewell
were serious touching. His mother is heart-broken and wept most bitterly as did
all his relatives. The wife, who is unable to visit her husband, is almost
overcome with grief. Archie will ever have a kind word for Sheriff Munroe and
Jailor Riddle for their. goo treatment during his confinement in jail. He will
leave for the penitentiary in a few days, and this should be a lesson to all.
This matter of killing our fellowman, and how important that we should always
think Mr. Holmes, under the circumstances, did, it seems, as most any man would
have done, but the law forbids, and God's truths proclaims against crime.
