Anniston Star January 9, 1901
Mr. Leslie Barfield, a well-known citizen of Lineville, Clay County, came near
being the victim of a fatal accident on the bridge crossing snow creek just below
Oxford yesterday afternoon about 4 o'clock. Mr. Barfield was in charge of a wagon
drawn by two spirited mules and loaded with a heavy piano and box. The mules
became frightened when about halfway across the bridge and the wheels of the
wages were ran upon a large slanting stave, turning the piano out of the wagon
with Mr. Barfield underneath. The edge of the box containing the piano struck the
railing of the bridge as it fell breaking the force of the fall of the box. Mr.
Barfield was considerably injured by the fall, but it is not thought the injuries
will prove to be serious.
