---------------

William Rannells was one of the first associate judges of Morgan County, and
in the absense of the presiding judge acted as president judge at the first
term of court held at McConnelsville in 1819. He came from Pennsylvania, and
settled on land now owned by his son Joseph. He was a man of enterprise,
intelligence and good judgment. He was an active member of the first church,
and an exemplary citizen. He erected the first frame barn in Brookfield
Township, and at an early date built a brick house.
