Moses Horton, the founder of Summerfield, died in 1863. Of his sons, William
was a successful physician for many years; he removed to the West in 1871.
Thomas was a conductor on the Underground railroad in antebellum days.
Richard, who died in 1878, was a prominent minister of the Wesleyan 
Methodist church.
