---------------

Finley Collins, an early settler, after coming to Ohio, first worked at the
salt works near Chandlersville. A few years later came his father, Elisha
Collins, and his twin brothers, Elijah and Elisha. They also had a
half-brother named John. Finley Collins made a great deal of maple sugar in
early times, which he marketed at a good price. In 1810 Finley Collins married
Margaret Shull. Their children were Sarah, John C., Mary, Hannah, Michael,
Maria, Ira, Jacob, Silas, William and Margaret. Sarah (Smith), Maria
(McClelland), Ira, William and Margaret (Dunnick) are living. At one time Mr.
Collins was in the service of the government against the Indians.
