John Samuel Law was born in Chambers county December 20, 1846 and died at his
home at Titus, Ala. in Elmore county April 16, 1920. He had been a faithful
member of the M. E. Church from his youth. He was buried in the cemetery of
Harmony Church, where his membership was placed when he was a young man. The
Masons and Odd Fellows had charge of the service. He was a member of both
fraternities and was loved by all the brethern that met with him. He was never
tired of the orders of which he was a member and he showed that he had the
spirit by being present at all the meetings. Brother C. H. Reese, his pastor,
conducted the funeral assisted by A. C. Thomas,Baptist minister of the
community. A large crowd attended the service showing that Brother Law had not
lived in bain, He had many very warm friends not only in the community where
he lived but most everywhere he went. He made friends. Brother Law always stood
for the highest ideals for his community and its best interests. He never grew
tired of doing service for the chuch and school. It can be said of him that he
did all that he could. He was not one that stored his treasures where moth and
rust doth corrupt of thieves break and steal. Though he provided well for his
household he never let the things of this world come first, always remembering
First seek ye the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things
shall be added unto you. He gave liberally to the chuch and all good causes.
Truly this man was prepared for the summons from on high and has gone to await
the coming of loving family and his many friends.
