The Valley Times September 1913
Death of Vivian Olivene Higgins

On Wednesday, September 17, at one o'clock, God took for His own this dear
little baby that He had loaned the young parents for a brief two months. A
peculiarly sad incident is the fact that the young mother is seriously ill in
a hospital in Florida, necessitating the presence of her husband at her
bedside. One month ago little Vivian was snet from her home in Bartow,
Florida, to her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Newman, of this place, to care
for during her mother's illness. But she was a frail, tender plant and
brightened the home only two months; for, despite the untiring efforts of a
skilled physician and vigilant and tender ministrations of the devoted
grandparents and friends, the little one passed to the Great Beyond, leaving
only a sweet and hallowed memory of the life that "sparkled, and exhaled and
went to Heaven," there forming a tender chord binding earth to Heaven.
A large number if relatives and friends followed the remains to Five
Points, one dear friend coming to LaFayette to bear the precious little casket
to the family burial ground ar that place, where they were joined by a large
concourse of friends, and all that kind friends could do was done to show the
love and respect for te grief-stricken family.
Standing by the grave of the dear baby, and listening to the comforting
words of the minister of God as he read from God's Holy Word and afterward
talked so beautifully, one could but feel that is is blessed to have an angel
in Heaven, one to greet us when we reach the other shore.
                                               M.L.H.
