"The LaFayette Sun" - May 23, 1928:

Death of Mr. J. P. Higgins.

Mr. James Pearce Higgins, son of the late J. T. Higgins, was born September
27, 1878, and reared in Chambers County, Ala., where he spent his entire
life. He was married to Miss Odessa Prather, daughter of the late lamented
T. J. Prather, also of Chambers County, December 27, 1903. He was a devoted
husband and loving father.
Early in life Mr. Higgins united with the Primitive Baptist Church and lived
a Christian life, and we feel that he has departed from his loved ones to
join our blessed Savior above.
During the year 1927 he, together with his family, moved to LaGrange, Ga.,
where they became endeared to many friends.
Mr. Higgins was widely known and highly respected by all his acquaintances.
His death occurred May 2, 1928, following an illness of three weeks. The
funeral services were conducted at the Baptist Church of Five Points, Ala.,
by the Rev. Walter P. Barnes, pastor of the First Baptist Church of
LaGrange, and very appropriate music was furnished by the choir from
LaGrange.
He is survived by his wife and children and the following brothers and
sisters, Mrs. Lola Britton, Loraine, Texas; Mrs. Rena Wheeler, Roanoke,
Ala.; W. B. Higgins, Five Points, Ala.; Cohen and Hiram Higgins, Columbus,
Ga.; Mrs. Sarah Bradshaw, Haleyville, Ala.; Mrs. Lena Dunn, Harold, Roy, Guy
and John T. Higgins, of Birmingham.
Hunter & Owens, of LaGrange, were the undertakers in charge.
May God in His mercy richly bless those left to mourn his departure,
especially his dear wife and children.

- A friend.
