The Chzttahoochee Valley Times May 4, 1916
   Mr.  J.  L. Gowan, aged about 40, who had lived in Lanett for seveal years, 
died Tuesday from erysipeals or blood-poisoning, which developed on his face 
from a small cut.
 
   Mr. Gowan wwas well known and had many friends here who speak of hiim as 
being a man of character, generous nature and quiet habits.  He had no family 
or relatives here, being from Okalhoma originally.  His death came after only a 
few days' illness, and was a chock to thsoe who knew him best.
