KILLING OCCURRED NEAR UNION (SCHOOL) SUNDAY

ALONZA JACKSON (LON) FANT, a well known citizen of Chambers County,
was instantly killed last Sunday afternoon about three o'clock at
the store near Union School. It is reported that FANT was either
standing or sitting on the front of the store when three men rode
up in a car and opened fire on him. Five shots is alleged to have
been fired with three taking effect, one of which was enough to
     produce death.
One of the bullets struck the victim about the shoulder joint and
passing downward through the heart and both lungs while two others
penetrated the abdomen and left thigh respectively. Sheriff SIMPSON
and deputies were immediately summoned to that section and upon
investigation REX JARRELL, HEFLIN HARMON, and TOM ISON were
arrested and placed in the Chambers County jail. It is reported
that REX JARRELL has confessed to the shooting while the car in
which they were riding belonged to HEFLIN HARMON. They are being
held pending an investigation by a coroner's jury.
