The LaFayette Sun April 29, 1896

In Memoriam.
Mrs. Amanda C. Davis, was born in Harris County, Ga., April 12, 1834
and died at her daughters, Mrs. W. H. Wilson, Chapel Hill, Ala., April 18,
1896, aged 62 years. She joined the Missionary Baptist Church at the age of
fifteen and was ever after a consistent member, observing the rules of the
church in all times and was a noble worker in Sabbath School. She made the
Bible her daily study.
She was the subject of severe suffering for more than a year previous
to her death, which she endured with much presence and fortitude, especially
for one who had been afflicted so long. During her illness she frequently
asked the writer to pray for her, that she might be given grace and patience to
bear her afflictions to the end.
She seemed willing and anxious to go and be with her Savior. She had no
fear of death, but spoke of it with great calmness and resignation. Her friends
and relatives find much comfort in the assurance of her happier and more
holy state. We would not call her back from her happy repose and subject her to
earth’s trials and sufferings. Rather let us ever view her there as an
additional motive to seek that rest which remains for the people of God. She
was a devoted wife and mother. She left a husband and five children to mourn
her loss; lost to them but her eternal gain, blessed thought. Let me say to
them to ever cherish her memory and labor to meet her in blissful home where
all her sufferings are ended.
Written by one who has known and loved her for years. L.B.D.
