Newspaper LaFayette Sun
"The LaFayette Sun" - July 28, 1909:

In Loving Remembrance.

On last Wednesday evening at half past six o’clock, the death angel visited
the home of J. T. Brooks and bore the spirit of his loving daughter, Leila,
to a home in Heaven.
Her body was laid to rest in the old family burial ground at Five Points on
Thursday afternoon. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Hammonds. She
leaves a father, two brothers and two sisters to mourn her sad loss, besides
other relatives and friends.
She had been sick for about two months, but never took her bed permanently
until about one week before her death, and everything that loving hands
could do for her was done to relieve her of pain.
Dear father, brothers, and sisters weep not for our dear one, for while it
is our loss, it is Heaven’s gain. God doeth all things right and why should
we weep? He has been so good to you to let her stay and cherish your home
these many years. I know it is hard to give up a faithful daughter and
sister, but think about the sweet bye-and-bye when we shall meet her on the
golden shore never to part no more. She is just parted from you for just a
space of time, so just look to God and say “Thy will be done.”

- Her cousin, I. N.
