Hughes The Idaho Statesman March 27, 1994 p. 13C Hobart M. Hughes, 91, of Nampa died Friday March 25, 1994, at a Nampa Hospital, following a short illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday March 29, 1994 at the Nampa First Church of the Nazarene 600 15th Ave. S. Dr. Dennis Johnson pastor of the church will officiate assisted by the Rev. Robert Miller. Internment will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel. Hobart was born on July 21, 1902 in Sutton, West Virginia. He was the seventh child in a family of six boys and six girls in 1904 the family moved to a Nebraska homestead. In December of 1921 he arrived in Nampa. Soon thereafter, he met Esther Pauline Griffins. They were married September 30, 1992 by Dr. H. Orton Wiley, then president of NNC in Nampa. He was employed by the Carnation Co. until he began ranching in 1924 south of Nampa. In 1939, the family moved to a homestead west of Homedale, where they farmed until 1946. They then moved to Nampa, where they have since resided. Hobart had been a longtime process server for the Nampa-Caldwell courts and many law and finance firms throughout the valley. At last count, he had served more than 200,000 legal documents for the court system. In earlier years, he was a deputy county tax assessor. He previously owned and operated the Hughes Bargain House in Nampa. Hobart became a member of the Nampa First Church of the Nazarene in 1921. He later served as later served as Sunday school superintendent, board member and Sunday school teacher at both the Homedale and Fairview Church of the Nazarene in more recent years they returned to the First Church of the Nazarene in Nampa, where they faithfully attended until ill health and hearing made it impossible. Mr. Hughes is a Life Member of the Gideon’s Society and spoke on the society’s behalf in scores of churches in western Idaho and eastern Oregon. He also served on the Advisory Committee for the Billy Graham Crusade. Hobart is survived by his wife Pauline of Nampa, a faithful companion for 71 years; 3 sons and daughters-in-law. Rev. Don and Lois Hughes of Pasadena, California (he is a field consultant for the Church of the Nazarene). Harold and Carol Hughes, Manteca, California (he is superintendent of schools) and Glenn and Elinor Hughes, Pocatello, Idaho (he is a senior Job Service consultant for the Idaho Dept. of Employment); 2 sisters. Mrs. Ocie Bromagen, Nampa, Mrs. Elsie Sheldon, Lindsay, California; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Vi Griffitts, Nampa, 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Friends may call at Alsip Funeral Chapel on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to Senior Adult Ministries of the First Church of the Nazarene in Nampa.
