Caldwell- Joseph "Joe" E. Conner, 73, of Caldwell, formerly of Payette, died 
Sunday, Jan 18, 1987 in a Caldwell nursing home. Services will be conducted at 
2 p.m., Thursday, in the Shaffer-Jensen Chapel, Payette. Washoe Masonic Lodge 
No. 28 AF & AM of Payette will officiate. Burial will follow in Rosedale 
Memorial Gardens, Payette. 
He was born June 16, 1913, on the Conner homestead northeast of Burwell, Neb, 
the son of Joseph and Tacy Fitzgerald Conner. He attended school in the Free 
Silver School at Burwell. In 1919 he moved with his parents into the town of 
Burwell where he continued his education. He farmed with his brother, then in 
1934-35 he served in the Civilian Conservation Corp at Albion and Pawnee City, 
Neb. He married Opal Neel on June 6, 1040 at Oniell, Neb. The honeymooned in 
Nampa, Idaho for six months then returned to Nebraska. He worked for the Quaker 
Ordinance plant in Grand Island, Neb, and later at the Grunkmeyer Meat Market 
as a butcher. They moved to Homedale in 1949. In 1951 he began working for the 
Simplot Soilbuilders and continued for 17 years as a night watchman. In 1967 
they moved to Payette, where he operated a small engine repair business until 
his retirement in 1980, at which time they moved to Caldwell. He was a member 
of the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge of Caldwell. 
He is survived by his wife Opal, Caldwell; two sons, Joseph Conner of Loring 
A.F.B., Maine, and Neil Conner of, Emmett; three daughters, Mrs. William 
(Bonnita) Brown, Caldwell, Mrs. Henry (Louise) Farrow, Nu Acres, and Mrs. Guy 
(Kalynn) Strange, Emmett.; two brothers, Otis and Charles, both of Burwell, 
Neb; 24 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 
his parents; two brothers and a sister.
