ABNER CALLAWAY DEAD

Well Known Pioneer Passes Away at His Home Near Caldwell

Caldwell, July 26 -- At 4 o'clock this morning A. E. Callaway passed away at
his home in this city surrounded by his family. Mr. Callaway was born in
Missouri and at his death was 79 years of age. He was one of the pioneers of
the west and of Idaho, going to California in 1849, when the mining excitement
first broke out. He was a veteran of the Mexican war, an Indian fighter and
pioneer. When the gold excitement was at its highest he came to the Boise
Basin, and was elected from Boise county to the territorial legislature, and
twice served from Ada county. He had resided in the Boise valley near
Caldwell for a number of years, and had taken a prominent part in the affairs
of this community. He was an honest, rugged pioneer, and his friends are
legion. He leaves a wife and four children.

The funeral services will be from the residence tomorrow evening at 6 o'clock.
