Herbert E. Burkhalter Jr., 77, of Piqua, passed away at 7:17 p.m. Monday, May 
12, 2008, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy.
Born Feb. 6, 1931, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of the late Herbert E. and 
Helen (Diehl) Burkhalter Sr.
He grew up in New Jersey, attended Cornell University, and earned a bachelor 
of arts degree in radio from the Ithaca College School of Broadcasting. He 
became a disc Jockey at WONE and WSAI in Cincinnati. He then moved to Dayton 
and became employed by the L.M. Berry Publishing Company and later at Carriage 
Realty. He was the co-founder of HCB Directories for Miami County and the 
president and founder of AMTEL Directories for Champaign, Shelby and Auglaize 
counties. He enjoyed collecting and selling antiques. Some of his most 
treasured time was spent tending his flower and vegetable gardens at home.
Herb is survived by his loving wife, Lois, whom he married Jan. 24,1978. He 
also is survived by three children and nine grandchildren, daughter and son-in-
law, Ann and Charles Dolin of Livingston, N.J., and their children, Ryan, Eric 
and Leah; his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Bonnie Burkhalter of 
Cincinnati and their children, Claire, Molly and Sarah; and his daughter and 
son-in-law, Cynthia and Larry Begley of Fairfield and their children, Joseph, 
Katie and Hannah. He also leaves a sister, Barbara Van Hook of Palm Harbor, 
Fla., and lifelong friend, Richard Magee of Buffalo, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Fr. Thomas 
Grilliot of St. Mary Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow 
immediately in Fletcher Cemetery
